Receive a Urinalysis in Laredo, TX
Your urine can provide some valuable clues about your overall health. Often performed as part of a routine wellness checkup, a urinalysis is a relatively simple screening test that involves an analysis of the appearance, content and concentration of a urine sample. A urinalysis can detect certain medical conditions, drugs and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It is also frequently performed during pregnancy, before a surgical procedure or during an ER visit.
At VitalMed Urgent Care, we can collect a urine sample and perform a urinalysis on site in our clinical lab. Just walk into one of our convenient locations in Laredo, Texas—no appointment is necessary.
What Telling Substances Can Be Found in Urine?
When performing a urinalysis, a lab technician may evaluate the urine sample in three ways: a visual inspection, a dipstick test (a chemical-coated strip that changes color in response to certain chemicals) or a microscopic evaluation. The results of a urinalysis may show:
- Acidity (an abnormal pH level) – Could indicate a kidney or urinary tract issue
- Highly concentrated urine – Often associated with dehydration
- Excess protein – May be traced to a kidney problem
- Sugar – Additional testing for diabetes may be recommended
- Bilirubin – Could be a sign of liver damage or disease
- White blood cells – May point to a urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Blood – Could signal kidney damage, infection, bladder stones or a blood disorder
On its own, a urinalysis usually does not provide sufficient information to allow for a definitive diagnosis. In most cases, an abnormal result is followed up with further testing.
In addition to urinalyses and other lab tests, the experienced medical team at VitalMed Urgent Care offers testing and treatment for a wide variety of non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Please contact us for more information about our services and walk-in clinics in Laredo, TX.
