Camp Physicals Performed on a Walk-In Basis in Laredo, TX
Generations of children have enjoyed spending summertime at a day or sleepaway camp. In addition to making friends and having fun, kids can try out new activities, such as hiking, swimming and other sports. Camp also provides children with unique and valuable opportunities to develop important life skills that aren’t as readily available in other settings.
If you have a child who is looking forward to attending camp this summer, keep in mind that he or she may be required to receive a “green light” from a medical provider before participating. Camp physicals are designed to screen would-be campers for medical conditions that might put them at risk during typical camp activities. And even when not required, camp physicals provide an excellent opportunity to take stock of a child’s overall health and identify potential issues early on, so they can be addressed before they become problems.
At VitalMed Urgent Care, we perform camp physicals on a walk-in basis at our two convenient locations in Laredo, Texas. You can feel confident entrusting your child’s health to our outstanding medical team, who will ensure that you both benefit from the same type of health assessment and tips that you would expect to receive from your family doctor or pediatrician—without having to wait several days for an appointment.
What Happens During a Camp Physical?
As you prepare for your child’s camp physical, be sure to gather any camp-required forms along with your child’s immunization record, current medication list and eyeglasses or contact lenses if appropriate. Then, bring those items with you when you visit VitalMed Urgent Care with your child for a camp physical. One of our experienced and kid-friendly providers can then make sure that your child is “camp ready” by completing:
- A health history, vaccination and medication review
- A vital-sign assessment, including blood pressure, pulse, height, weight and body temperature
- Basic vision and hearing screenings
While finalizing the necessary paperwork, your provider will note for the camp staff any issues that could affect your child’s health, safety or well-being while at camp. For instance, if your child has been diagnosed with an allergy or asthma, he or she may need to carry an epinephrine auto-injector or an inhaler. Or, if your child recently sustained an orthopedic injury, such as a sprain, strain or fracture, he or she may need to sit out certain camp activities in order to minimize the risk of re-injury.
In addition to camp physicals, VitalMed Urgent Care performs school, sports and pre-employment physicals as well as a full slate of non-emergency healthcare and occupational medicine services. And no matter the reason for your visit, no appointment is ever necessary. You and your child are welcome to stop by one of our state-of-the-art urgent care centers in Laredo, TX, for a camp physical any day of the week!
